Hyssop, Organic
Botanical name: Hyssopus officinalis L.
State of this herb: Dried, cut, and sifted
About this herb: Hyssop is an herb of purification. Whole twigs were used in rites of purification after touching the dead, and the sprinkling of waters of lustration were performed with hyssop branches. It is also used in rites of purification for spiritual afflictions. Hyssop branches were used to paint blood upon the doorposts. Historically, Jewish communities grew it in their courtyards and sold it in bundles. Considered the smallest of the trees, it was added to the ashes of the red heifer. Hyssop is known for its expectorant and cough-suppressing properties, making it a popular remedy for colds and flus. It is also popular for digestion.
